Connecting Instagram does not create a new assistant. It links an existing<\/strong> AI assistant to your Instagram Business account<\/strong>, so the same assistant that answers on your website can also reply in Instagram DMs (and optionally on comments).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This guide covers what that connection does, what you need before you start, and how to set it up in FineGuide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens when Instagram is connected<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

FineGuide sits between Instagram and your assistant:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Someone sends a DM<\/strong> or leaves a comment<\/strong> (if you enabled that).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Instagram delivers the event to FineGuide.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Your assistant processes the message using its knowledge<\/strong>, instructions<\/strong>, and features<\/strong> (same as on other channels).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. The reply is sent back on Instagram.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    So Instagram is a channel<\/strong>, not a separate bot. One assistant, one personality, one knowledge base \u2014 with Instagram as an extra way for customers to reach you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What you need before you start<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • An AI assistant<\/strong> already created in FineGuide.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • An Instagram Business<\/strong> (or creator) account with messaging enabled \u2014 the product asks you to connect an Instagram Business<\/strong> account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Admin access<\/strong> to that Instagram account so you can approve permissions in Meta\u2019s login flow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • A browser that allows popups<\/strong> for FineGuide (the connection opens an Instagram authorization window).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      It also helps if the assistant already has basic knowledge<\/strong> and instructions<\/strong>, so replies are useful from the first real DM. Connecting Instagram only routes traffic; it does not teach the assistant your business by itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Step 1: Open Connect Apps for your assistant<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. Sign in to FineGuide and open Assistants<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Open the assistant you want on Instagram.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. In the sidebar, under Advanced<\/strong>, open Connect Apps<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        You\u2019ll see a grid of channels. Instagram is listed as Instagram<\/strong> \u2014 Engage with customers on Instagram DMs and comments.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Step 2: Start the Instagram connection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          \n
        1. Click the Instagram<\/strong> card.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. On the Instagram screen, read the short description: you\u2019re connecting an Instagram Business account<\/strong> for DMs and comments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. Click Connect with Instagram<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          A popup opens and takes you through Instagram \/ Meta authorization<\/strong>. Log in with the account that owns the Instagram profile you want to use, then approve the permissions FineGuide requests (access to manage messages and, if applicable, comments).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          If nothing happens:<\/strong> your browser may have blocked the popup. Allow popups for FineGuide and click Connect with Instagram<\/strong> again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          If you see an error that the account is already connected:<\/strong> that Instagram profile is already linked to another assistant<\/strong> in your workspace. Disconnect it there first, or choose a different assistant for this account. Only one assistant can use a given Instagram account at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          When authorization succeeds, you\u2019ll see a success message and the popup will close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Step 3: Confirm the account is linked<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          Back in Connect Apps<\/strong>, the Instagram card should show as Connected<\/strong> (green Active<\/strong> on the grid).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Open the Instagram card again. You should see:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \n
          • Connected account<\/strong> \u2014 your Instagram handle (e.g. @yourbrand<\/code>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • An Automations<\/strong> section<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            If the handle is wrong, you connected the wrong Meta\/Instagram login; disconnect and repeat with the correct account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Step 4: Choose where the assistant should respond<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            Under Automations<\/strong>, you control which Instagram events<\/strong> trigger your assistant:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Most teams start with DMs only<\/strong>, test quality, then turn on comments<\/strong> if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            After changing checkboxes, click Save preferences<\/strong>. Use Reset<\/strong> to return to defaults (DMs on, comments off).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Step 5: Test with a real message<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
              \n
            1. From another Instagram account (or a colleague\u2019s), send a DM<\/strong> to your connected profile.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            2. Ask something your assistant should know from its knowledge base.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            3. Confirm you get a sensible reply in Instagram.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              You can also use the assistant\u2019s chat preview<\/strong> in FineGuide to sanity-check behavior, but the real proof is a DM on Instagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              If there is no reply: check that Respond to Instagram direct messages<\/strong> is enabled and saved, and that the assistant has knowledge and is not restricted in a way that blocks answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Disconnecting Instagram<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

              On the same Instagram screen, use Disconnect Instagram<\/strong> if you want to remove the link. The assistant itself stays; only the Instagram channel is removed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
